How to choose right mould steel?

To choose right mould steel is very important to make the mould, there are around 50% moulds cannot work well because of the improper choice of mould steel and improper heat treatment. In mould price, mould steel cost is about 20% to 30%, so it is necessary to choose good and right steel to ensure long mould life.

Common used steel for plastic injection moulds have P20, 718H, DIN 1.2311, DIN 1.2738, DIN 1.2344, DIN 1.2316, S136, 3Cr13… for different mould should with different mould steel.

Such as for plastic chair mould, P20 can meet the demands of the mould. Because the chair mould is not very high speed running and mould is big, P20 is not so expensive and producing chair there is no problem. While for thin wall container product, it must use hardened steel and with good polish ability, like S136, because thin wall container mould running with high speed and high pressure, the mould must be strong enough to bear the pressure.
